Paddy Power PLC says it is so sure Barack Obama will win the U.S. presidential election next month that it paid off Thursday on all bets it had taken backing the Democratic candidate. It said it shelled out more than euro1 million, about $1.35 million.

“We declare this race well and truly over and congratulate all those who backed Obama—your winnings await you,” the company said in a statement.

Paddy Power has a long tradition of winning free publicity by paying off early, particularly on political contests—and it also has a recent record of getting the result spectacularly wrong.

In June, the company paid out early in favor of people who bet Irish voters would approve the European Union’s latest treaty in a referendum. The next day, a “no” result sent shock waves across the 27-nation EU, and cost Powers a hefty sum since it ended up paying off both sides of the bet.

The same thing would happen to Powers if it guessed wrong about the U.S. election. The pro-Obama bettors would keep the winnings paid out Thursday, while John McCain backers would cash in, too.

Powers said the biggest winner among the Obama bettors was someone who gambled euro100,000 and got back a total of euro150,000.

The most visionary bettor, though, was the “punter” who put down euro50 on Obama in 2005. At the time, Obama was listed at 50-to-1, so the bettor got euro2,550.

Despite calling the contest, the Dublin-based bookmaker said it is still taking new bets on the race. A John McCain victory Nov. 4 on a bet placed Thursday would pay off euro5 for every euro1 bet. By contrast, each euro1 bet on Obama would net just 11 euro cents.

Steve Beshear of Kentucky will get his answer from the judge as he attempts to obtain the ownership of 141 more Online Gambling domain names to The Commonwealth of Kentucky to “protect the people of Kentucky” .  Well he also stated that he really wants to protect the Horse racing industry of Kentucky as well as the land based casinos and lottery mainly but he is also concerned about the people I guess? 

The historic presence of this case is huge, if he succeeds where does it go next?  If he is permitted to get the 141 names (he already has obtained 2 that were no longer in use but on his list) where does it end?  The domain names in question are form licensed operators in different countries, with domain registration legally obtained outside of the United States.  This sounds so amazingly impossible that I feel stupid writing this article but this is happening, happening TODAY, NOW..  well you get the idea.

If this case is not thrown out of court and laughed at by the presiding justice what is next?  Will all adult sites be taken over by a state or church that claims the content is not suitable for people or children in their district?  What about the businesses destroyed by taking away the number one identifier?  Are all news sites next if they report a story that makes the public obtain an opinion that others do not want?

 Its bad enough we are loosing ground to China in many aspects, but we do not need to become China.  This is an attempt at censorship, plain and simple but I bet the complacent public of the United States will just utter the old “well that’s too bad but I am not effected” quote we are all accustomed to at this point.

Steve Beshear in a means to protect the horse racing and lottery monopoly, along with the commonwealth of Kentucky has taken over the ownership of an online gambling web site stating they are breaking the laws of 50 states by offering online gambling.  Not only is Online Gambling not breaking any state laws unless your in the repressed state of Washington, seizing domain names to sensor the Internet is pure Communism.  I hope this causes such a backlash in Kentucky this jackass never sees another day of legislation and turns into a jobless lowlife he is.

Now you say you never heard of the site in question, LuckyPyramidCasino.com but that was one of 150 domain names they want to seize including bodoglife, allslots and others all having a major stake in online gambling world wide.  If the US is permitted to take control of these domains and sensor the American people on how they are to live their lives then I say its past due for a revolution our founding fathers would be proud of.

Getting back to the point, with barney frank presiding over this bill, how hard would it be to slip in an end to the UIGEA as its another must pass bill.  You know my stance on ”slipping” something onto a bill but this would be a double negative making a real positive no?  With Frank’s attempts at passing a bill to eradicate the UIGEA as its a complete joke and Bordon on the banking industry, it seems almost for sure he will add text to regulate gaming online or at least wipe out this stupid addition to the port security act.

 All we can do is hope something decent comes of this fiasco, maybe a moment of silence or a few thousand emails to Frank to let him know this is a good idea!

 New bills introduced to remove the powers of the UIGEA are in place, as well as bills to regulate the online gaming industry, something that should have been done years ago.  Congress has to stop using every situation for personal benefit to their pockets and start doing what is right for the country and freedom.

At least five casinos will go totally smoke free in their gambling areas.

Harrah’s Atlantic City, the Showboat, Bally’s Atlantic City and Caesars Atlantic City will open smoking lounges ranging from 1,000 to 2,000 square feet apiece.

Tropicana Casino and Resort also plans to go the smoking lounge route.

Resorts Atlantic City and the Atlantic City Hilton Casino Resort will create a smoking lounge at each casino, along with one slots area and one table games area at each casino that will be set aside for smokers.

This comes at a bad time for Atlantic City casinos’ that are already struggling this year, dropping revenue by nearly 6 percent from a year ago.

The latest numbers continued a downward trend this year in Atlantic City that has seen the amount of money casinos won from gamblers increase in just one of eight months so far.

The decline is due to a variety of factors, including newly opened slots parlors in Pennsylvania and Delaware, and a partial smoking ban in Atlantic City’s 11 casinos.

The Casino is the worlds second largest building which will hold the world’s biggest casino with 850 gaming tables and 4100 poker machines, a 3000-suite (not room) hotel, a 350-store shopping complex and a sports stadium that will hold 15,000 people.

The project aims to create a critical mass that will transform what has been a Chinese gaming city dominated by day trippers into a much broader draw card, with conventions, trade shows and big-ticket entertainment.

To imagine the size of the Venetian, imagine a building large enough to store 90 Boeing 747s.

Adelson’s Las Vegas Sands Corporation’s first foray into Macau, the Sands Macau waterfront casino, part of the traditional casino area called “The Peninsula”, was the world’s biggest, with 740 tables and more than 1200 poker machines. MGMDubai World, the state-owned investment firm in this fast-growing Persian Gulf emirate, will pay US$2.7 billion to acquire a 50 percent stake in CityCenter, a 76-acre urban metropolis with upscale hotels, condos and retail to open by 2009.

The transaction also includes up to $2.4 billion in stock purchases, giving Dubai World an approximately 10 percent interest in MGM. Some of the shares will be purchased through an $84-a-share tender offer, a 13 percent premium to Tuesday’s closing price of $74.32.

The company, owned by the ambitious ruler of Dubai, Emirates’ Vice President and Premier Sheik Mohammed Bin Rashid al-Maktoum, also intends to acquire an additional 14 million shares from public shareholders, the company said Wednesday. (more…)
