Phil Laak Takes Down the PartyPoker World Open V

phil-laak.jpgProfessional poker player Phil ‘The Unabomber’ Laak outplayed a tough field at the PartyPoker World Open V in London and took down the title and the $250,000 first prize money.

Laak went into heads up play against Dutch online qualifier Jan Veit. Veit was in the lead when play began but during the very first hand Laak got the chips in pre-flop and Veit called. It was laak’s A 8 against Veit’s A 4, no help came from the board and Laak doubled up.

Heads up play did not last for long, the final hand was similar to the first one. Laak took the title when his Q 9 defeated Veit’s J 7.

The final table results were the following:

  1. Phil Laak
  2. Jan Veit
  3. Luke Schwartz
  4. Bodo Sbrzesny
  5. Jennifer Tilly
  6. Mike Sexton
  7. Andy Black

Luke Schwartz was by far the most agressive player at the table and even though the other players were trying to make him steam, he kept focused on his game. Mike Sexton also played well and received news of his induction to the Poker Hall of Fame while in London. Congratulations to Laak for his winning.
