When the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) was passed in 2006 a lot of the foreign gaming companies left the US market. Even though the law only came into effect in June of 2010, most companies with listings in the London Stock Exchange pulled out of the market when the law was signed.
We are aware that poker has become a trendy passtime amongst celebrities and sports stars. NBA players are known for holding poker games between teammates or with mixed teams players and they always turn out to be fun nights.
Things got a little different over the past few days when two Washington Wizards players, Gilbert Arenas and Javaris Crittendon got into a heated argument about some unpaid poker debt.
The argument was so intense that both players took out their hand guns in the team’s locker room but fortunately, it did not go any further.
Coaches from different NBA teams gathered to share their opinions on the incident. While some think that poker has been around basketball players for decades and it is a good thing, many others stated that they do not consider fights over money good for team spirit.
Currently, there are norules about poker on the NBA at the moment, but the NBA might decide to get some policies concerning poker games amongst basketball players after this incident.
DUBLIN, Ireland (AP) – The race is over as far as Ireland’s biggest bookmaker is concerned.
Paddy Power PLC says it is so sure Barack Obama will win the U.S. presidential election next month that it paid off Thursday on all bets it had taken backing the Democratic candidate. It said it shelled out more than euro1 million, about $1.35 million.
“We declare this race well and truly over and congratulate all those who backed Obama—your winnings await you,” the company said in a statement.
Paddy Power has a long tradition of winning free publicity by paying off early, particularly on political contests—and it also has a recent record of getting the result spectacularly wrong.
In June, the company paid out early in favor of people who bet Irish voters would approve the European Union’s latest treaty in a referendum. The next day, a “no” result sent shock waves across the 27-nation EU, and cost Powers a hefty sum since it ended up paying off both sides of the bet.
The same thing would happen to Powers if it guessed wrong about the U.S. election. The pro-Obama bettors would keep the winnings paid out Thursday, while John McCain backers would cash in, too.
Powers said the biggest winner among the Obama bettors was someone who gambled euro100,000 and got back a total of euro150,000.
The most visionary bettor, though, was the “punter” who put down euro50 on Obama in 2005. At the time, Obama was listed at 50-to-1, so the bettor got euro2,550.
Despite calling the contest, the Dublin-based bookmaker said it is still taking new bets on the race. A John McCain victory Nov. 4 on a bet placed Thursday would pay off euro5 for every euro1 bet. By contrast, each euro1 bet on Obama would net just 11 euro cents.
Looking at the odds for the Superbowl, New England -12 may have a hard time covering. The Giants are playing fantastic as a team, defense is great and the offence is running well, not fantastic but well. New England has been getting a lot of focus by the NFL obviously after going the entire season without a loss, I think this is a problem for them now as the Giants should see the weaknesses in both offense and defence as we can. Stay on the inside of the defense as the backs play off and outside, put LOTS of pressure on Brady and they should cover easily, if not beat the unbeaten?Â
Is Tom Brady hurt? Its hard to tell but by the end of the first quarter we should have the answer! Is Manning getting some inside information from Payton? I am a firm believer blood is stronger than sport, and Payton would much rather have New England beaten in the big game than not. Look for a great by the Giants, also look to Bill to put his plans together to stop them.
I think this will be a very interesting Super Bowl, much better matchup than most people really think.
For some reason the NY Yankees seemed the highly favored team going into the series to win, no one seems to mention the Indians have tied for the best record in baseball, They are third in the league in pitching and of course they are young and really want to win for the right reasons. It was obvious the Cleveland Indians were not startled by the bright lights of Yankee stadium, or mesmerized by the non stop hype of the New York offense. They stayed calm cool and of course, as they have all year, had fun doing what they do. Manager Eric Wedge lives for the day, he lives for the respect of the game.
With over 200 million spent on Yankee players, old George would be better off buying rings on his own than trying to buy a championship. Threatening to fire Joe is also a show of insecurity, to put your manager on the ropes while the series is still going is pure desperation. As always when you press to hard the results are usually pushed right back in your face.
Will the Tribe get a championship for Cleveland after all these years? I don’t know, but I do know what is proven to win one. Pitching, Pitching and then a little more Pitching seems to be the Trinity of October ball and Cleveland is stacked from start to finish this year and for many to follow.
Gary Kaplan, the BetonSports Plc founder captured 10 months after fleeing a U.S. government indictment for illegal Internet betting, lost his bid to be freed on bail as he awaits trial.
U.S. District Judge Carol Jackson in St. Louis federal court denied Kaplan’s request to be released. He was initially denied bail by a federal magistrate in June.
“There is no condition or combination of conditions of release that would reasonably assure the defendant’s appearance,” Jackson said yesterday in a ruling.
Kaplan, 48, was seized in a Dominican Republic hotel in March. BetonSports, the London-based online gambling company, pleaded guilty May 24 to a single
racketeering conspiracy charge and agreed to cooperate with prosecutors by furnishing evidence against Kaplan and 11 codefendants. All of the individual defendants have pleaded not guilty.
Kaplan previously offered to pay for a private security detail to guard him and wear electronic monitoring equipment
Vick, who already pleaded guilty in federal court to a dogfighting conspiracy charge and is awaiting sentencing Dec. 10, was indicted on one count of beating or killing or causing dogs to fight other dogs and one count of engaging in or promoting dogfighting. Each count is a felony, punishable by up to five years in prison.

In a follow up to our earlier story OJ Simpson arrested at Las Vegas casino
TMZ.com has obtained an audio copy of the shock OJ Simpson robbery that transpired this past Thursday night at the Palace Station Hotel in Las Vegas. Listen Here (the language on this tape may not be suitable for all listeners).
The audiotape was recorded by Thomas Riccio, who co-owns the auction house Universal Rarities. Riccio met up with Simpson before the confrontation at the Palace Station Casino on Thursday night.
“We’re told Riccio was on hand to help Simpson prove certain memorabilia being auctioned by Alfred Beardsley was ill-gotten. Riccio says he believed Simpson was going to confront Beardsley in the hotel room to give him an ultimatum — either hand over the goods or Simpson would call the cops.”
Riccio turned his digital voice recorder on before the men entered the room. The group included Simpson and four other men. Almost immediately, Simpson went wild, hurling profanities at Beardsley and another memorabilia dealer, Bruce Fromong.
The confrontation lasts six minutes. It is graphic and telling. Simpson repeatedly says, “Don’t let nobody out of here.”
“Think you can steal my s— and sell it?”.
How the audiotape ended up in the hands of TMZ.com is not known to us. OJ Simpson will probably not have a bail hearing until Tuesday morning.
We’re sure your favorite online sportsbook is hard at work coming up with some interesting OJ Simpson prop bets. Make sure to visit them and have a look for yourself.
Week 2 of the NFL season proved to be a very profitable week for the bookies as the heavy favorites failed to cover the spreads. Teams like the Bengals, Colts and Saints received nearly 100% of the action and failed to cover. Some other surprises like the losses by the Seahawks, Rams, Panthers and Broncos also helped the bottom line.
The only heavy favorite to cover was the Pittsburgh Steelers.
This is good news for the books as they’ve had a roller coaster ride the last couple of years.
