France Issues Licenses to Online Gambling Providers

The French online gambling market recently became regulated by French authorities and the new authority in the matter, ARJEL, has already issued 11 licenses to online gambling providers.

According to a spokesman from ARJEL, 24 companies have applied for the 35 licenses that will be issued. ARJEL has already issued 11 and the rest of the applicants are on the waiting list, none have been rejected yet.

Amongst the companies that were issued licenses are Unibet Enterprises Limited, owners of BetClic; Everest Gaming Limited, owners of Everest Poker; BES SAS, owners of Bwin; the rest of the licensees are French companeis which focus mostly on horse racing and sports betting.

Online gambling giant MicroGaming has not been issued a license yet, they applied in conjunction with 888.com and expect to get a poker license to operate in the Franch online gambling market.

On the other hand, online casino gambling is still illegal in the country.
