UK bookmaker and online casino owner William Hill recently broke the news to the online gambling community of their very ambitious plan to buy the Tote. The tote is the UK Government owned betting firm despite recent competition rules do not allow the purchase to happen officialy.
William Hill made it clear in the announcement that they are seeking to strengthen their position as an online gaming operator in the UK market. However, it is clear that the acquisition of the Tote will not be easy and will be highly disputed as other competiors, such as Paddy Power and Ladbrokes, also intempt to take over the betting firm.
As for any word coming from the Tote, the government officials currently in charge of it, such as Secretary of State for Culture, Olympics, Media and Sports Jeremy Hunt, have said that the sale is imminent as they do not wish to hold control of the company any longer. There is a high wish to release the Tote from the public sector and the best bidder will probably pocket this firm.
William Hill also has other ambitious plans under its sleeve, they recently launched an Austrian betting website as the Austrian gaming market became open to interntional organizations, they also plan to do something similar with Germany but it is not official yet.
